Rates from the CBIC schedules notified in September 2025, reviewed July 2026. For a filing decision, confirm on the CBIC GST rate finder, and read the note on anything marked "verify". This tool is a lookup, not tax advice.
In the app you never look this up. Say "200 kilo binding wire becha, 80 ka" and AawazAI picks the HSN and rate from this same list, shows them on the card, and you confirm. How billing works.
Questions
About HSN codes and rates
What is an HSN code?
HSN stands for Harmonised System of Nomenclature, a numbering system for goods used by customs and GST worldwide. Under GST every goods line on a tax invoice carries an HSN code, and the code decides which GST rate applies. Services use SAC (Services Accounting Code) instead.
How many digits of HSN do I need on my invoice?
It depends on your aggregate turnover in the previous financial year: up to ₹5 crore, 4 digits on B2B invoices (optional on B2C); above ₹5 crore, 6 digits on every invoice. Exports and imports use 8 digits. The AawazAI app picks the depth from your turnover setting.
Where do these rates come from and are they current?
From the CBIC rate schedules notified in September 2025 (Notification 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate) and the exempt list), which brought the 5% and 18% slabs plus 40% for a small set of goods. The list was reviewed in July 2026. Rates change by notification, so for a filing decision confirm on the CBIC GST rate finder, and for anything marked "verify" read the note.
Why does one item show two possible rates?
Because packaging or branding changes the rate for many foods: loose or unbranded is often exempt, pre-packaged and labelled is taxed. The note on the result says which is which. The same happens with size or value thresholds on some garments and footwear.
